Scrimshaw is the centuries-old art of carving stories and intricate illustrations into bone or ivory, traditionally practiced by sailors and fishermen during long stretches at sea. They worked slowly and deliberately, creating pieces that became records of distant places, long crossings, and the people waiting for them on shore.

Scrimshaw Studio carries that tradition forward. Based in the Pacific Northwest, where the sea shapes both landscape and identity, Scrimshaw is a mobile studio dedicated to finely crafted tattoos that honor memory, movement, and the lives we live between harbors. Every line is etched with intention. Every tattoo is a record, marking the moments that deserve to outlast the day.

The Artist

I’m Lolo, the artist and owner behind Scrimshaw Studio. I’m a lifelong artist, designer, & Bellingham local. I’m drawn to bold blackwork, traditional tattooing, and imagery inspired by nature, folklore, and the sea.

If I’m not tattooing, I’m drawing, growing flowers, foraging for mushrooms, or pointing at the sky and shouting “Look at the moon!” I love old objects, strange little creatures, and cozy blankets. You can usually find me over-caffeinated and roaming the Pacific Northwest with my family.
